FANTASY FOOTBALL

Erin wanted to be in the picture too!

Another year, another fantasy football league. Last Sunday, we had our draft for both the girls' league and the couple's league. I'm happy to report that I have Aaron Rodgers as my QB in both leagues! I'm not quite sure how I got that lucky, but I will take it.

A few years ago, I never thought I would be playing this game. Andrew was so into it, and I just didn't understand the appeal. I'm so glad he changed my mind. It helps that ESPN breaks down all of the stats for you (and predicts the points each player will get). Another thing I love is that I'm able to keep in better contact with all of my friends who don't actually live near me. We smack talk about our match-up and occasionally make small side bets. I think Andrew is just happy that I want to watch more than just the Packers game.

Also this year, I am in a pick 'em league where I choose the winner of one game every week. I'm not sure that I will make it further than the second round (double elimination), but I'm excited to try it anyway.

Do you play fantasy football?

AUGUST RECAP

So I guess it has been since April since I last did one of these... Yeah, I should do this more.

Reading: I finished The Sun Also Rises, and I was so thankful that it was over. Moving on. Next up was My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Sharp Object by Gillian Flynn, and currently reading (another throwback) Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Phew. I think next on my list is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

Watching: I have been watching more than enough murder mystery shows. I feel like I should stop for fear of being unjustly implicated in a murder someday because of crime/murder drama show addiction. I have the longest list of shows I need to watch or get caught up on, but for now they will just have to wait.

Listening to: Kacey Musgraves has been on repeat this last week. Holy smokes! I really like her sound. I might have also added a country station to my short cut buttons in my car. This is very unusual for me, and I have no explanation.

Thinking about: What am I doing with my life seems to be a common theme lately. That might have something to do with the blog hiatus. How do you really answer this question? What is the next step and where do I go from here? If anyone would like to get together for drinks to talk about life plans, I'm game. (Emily - I'm talking to you!)

Loving: Andrew started a slightly different schedule at work. He is still working nights, but he is working five days a week instead of four. That means, he doesn't have to go into work until about 8:30 pm. That's two more hours we get to see each other every day - almost double of the total amount of time we were seeing each other! The down side, I don't feel like I'm going to get much done... I would rather just hang out with him. Oh well.

Looking forward to: Getting this 1/2 marathon over with! I want to get back to a place where I run because I want to, not because I have to.

Making me happy: Fall is right around the corner! It's so close. Football, sweatshirts, pumpkin everything. Bring it on... but not until September. I refuse to acknowledge fall until September 1. Then, let the festivities begin!

2013 IOWA STATE FAIR

So Emily told me that after our visit last weekend, I had to write an epic weekend recap. Well, I didn't take as many pictures as I should have (so you get a lot of the fair), but I'll try to make it as bombtastic as possible.

Thursday: We took off early for DM so we could fully enjoy Nick's bday on Friday. Mat and Ashley stopped by to say hi, but everything was pretty low key.

Friday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK! Emily and I decided to kick a** and do a "stretching" workout... and by stretching I mean evil stoic poses that make your whole body burn. We needed it though. We were going to be eating back all of those calories and then some at the fair that day. The Iowa State Fair did not disappoint. Emily and I mapped out all of the best food so we could take full advantage of everything the fair had to offer.

Saturday: After recovering from our food coma, we headed straight to the farmers market - the most logical choice of course. We didn't really buy much except for some bomb yogurt parfaits. And we did get to see my friend, Mallory, and her son, Max!

Saturday night, we grilled out before heading downtown for the Iowa Cubs baseball game. Alex and Kelly joined us for a good game with great weather.

I feel like last weekend was the most epic summer weekend you could have. Fair, grilling out, baseball, good friends! What more could you want?

OMG! SNAKE!

Hiatus Happenings: Remember that one time that I took a break from blogging for a month? Here is something fun that happened!

One night after a late movie, Andrew and I were walking to our car in the parking garage and a note on a car a couple of stalls away caught my eye. I was nosy and had to check it out. Well, I am so glad I did. Andrew and I got a pretty good laugh when we saw this note.

The note reads:
Hello! FYI There was IS! a snake coming out of the bags in your backseat. There is a mother fuckin snake in your fucken car! We wanted you to know so that the snake was no wouldn't get in your car seat. P.S. Heres a coupon for Nasonex PP.S - Clean out your car!

Who carries that much garbage in their car? Where were they taking it? I really hope they found the snake. YIKES!

WEEKEND RECAP: AUGUST 2-4

Since this was the first weekend we didn't have a dog staying with us in a long time, it was nice to be able to come and go as we please. So we took full advantage of our weekend starting at 3:30 pm on Friday. I would say 2 pm, but we first had to go get Andrew his updated license.

So after that, we went shopping, hit up the driving range so Andrew could test out his new club, a drink at Krug, and then grilling out at home. I had some major work to do on a project so the fun for the night stopped there.

Saturday we were up bright an early (7 am early...) to go to another auction. It wasn't as good as the one last week, but we got some goods that I'm pretty pleased with. We then rewarded ourselves by spending the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the deck. We earned it.

That night we had a few drinks with some of my brother's friends from HS, and then hit up the Buffalo Club in Dunlap to keep my sister company for a drink. Don't worry. We were home and in bed before midnight.

Sunday was another relaxing day with family. Eating, talking, youtubing, relaxing, etc... I really enjoy the time I spend with my family and the slower life that comes in a small town. Just a great day overall!

What were you up to this weekend?
